I find it really tough making profiles for myself in social networking sites because, really, how do you answer those little About Me boxes? "You know me" is a cop-out. Listing an entire list of things that are really about you is just self-centered because, well, people aren't that interested in reading it all anyway.

So, you have to find the nice little charming middle ground that says to your online stalkers, "Add me! Add me!"

Today, I tried to type in my profile for Facebook and I could only come up with:

"Likes football. And footballers. And their thighs."

And I was actually really satisfied with it.

Sometimes I worry I have become too shallow.

I'm on this creative streak, so I'm in the middle of layouting this UPDS issue primer on the Bangsamoro Juridical Entity, but I needed images for it. So I typed "MILF" on my best friend, Google Images.

But I totally forgot that "MILF" also stands for "Mom I'd Like To Fuck." So, instead of rebel soldiers and the war in Mindanao, I got pictures of middle-aged American women in nothing but small aprons and kinky rubber gloves.

I just came back from Singapore yesterday and I loved it there! I'm sorry, colonial mentality na kung colonial mentality, pero shet, ang ganda doon. The urban planning was so neat and symmetrical and so logical. People walked or commuted instead of drove because there were actual sidewalks and their trains were extensive and drivers actually followed the traffic rules. And my favorite (and most shallow reason) is the fact that the difference isn't so jarring because, well, everybody's still Asian.

Pero, stress, Singapore is just too expensive for my grepaness. I remember walking down Orchard Road where we were staying and we passed by a mall named Isetan. But no, the shops there were Salvatore Ferregamo and Prada. Nainsulto ang Isetann ng Cubao.

Today, I had to get my glasses fixed in Glorietta because I dropped them again and they finally cracked. I left them in the optical store and had to wander around the mall for about an hour without them. At kung ang grado ng mata mo ay -325, that's practically like walking around blind. In all fairness to my powers though, nahanap ko pa rin ang Zara.

*

Sometimes, I think the most painful feeling in the world is to go inside a store and see all the clothes you once splurged on go 70% off. So, I briefly considered buying more of the sale items just to have my revenge on them, until I realized I was falling into the Zara Trap of Consumeristic Doom all over again.

Kath: Adam Smith said money has no value until you buy something.
Claire: And who are we to question Adam Smith?

I realized I can't blog anymore. Like, my brain won't function anymore. I'm taking CW 141 (Creative Nonfiction), and the first thing my professor lambasted were writers who were "pettily autobiographical." I'm petty and I really like writing about myself, so, yeah.

*

I wish I could say my majors or my Pol Sci and Socio electives are my favorite classes, but they're not. What I really, really, really love is Film 178 (Queer Cinema). Our professor is hilarious and the discussion is like Pan Pil 19 on crack.

Ma'am: What kinks depicted in the movie couldn't you accept?
Class: Ma'am, kadiri yung couples vomiting on each other.
Ma'am: Bakit? Bakit hindi natin matanggap ang dumi? Ang ihi? Ang suka? What makes dirt dirty?
Class: ...Whut.
Ma'am: Importante naman sa katawan natin ang dumi, ang ihi. We reject what gives us life!
Class: Ma'am, parang... love?

I'm sure there's a profound lesson here somewhere, but we're usually too retarded in class to notice.

*

I'm sure I don't really hate you. It's really just more of annoyance. Irritation. Or just motherfrickin' exasperation. But "hate" is so much shorter to type and it even has a netspeakz acronym. So: IHU.

PS: I secretly like netspeak. In my head, I talk like a 16 year-old girl on Myspace. Forrealz.

Whoever says that English is the universal language should have seen me and my family trying to survive Eastern Europe. Sabi nga ni Bob Ong, kapag nagsalita ka ng German, parang halos lumabag ka ng karapatang pantao.

Now, I think I've picked up a few handy words while traveling. Strangely enough, I measure my newfound multilingual vocabulary through my translations of the word "exit," well, because getting lost and trapped in a foreign country = not much fun.

So, off the top of my head:
"Ausgang" in German
"Uscita" in Italian
"Sortie" in French
"Salida" in Spanish

But in Polish, it's "wyjscie."

I mean, seriously, a word of such utter importance should not be allowed to have five consecutive consonants.

I also picked up other words that are just as crucial to any girl's trip abroad: "slezky" means sale. (Obviously, my dad wasn't very happy when my sisters and I worked out this translation.)

And "mycia twarzy" is, er, foaming facial wash. Or so I hope. I forgot to bring mine so we had to raid their drug stores and couldn't understand the labels on anything. "Mycia twarzy" had better be facial wash because if it's not, well, I don't know what I've been using on my face these past three weeks.

Oh, and I also learned a good deal of German, like, "guten morgen" means good morning, "fruhstuck" means breakfast and "huhnchen" means chicken. Methinks that's a brilliant piece of street-smartness because if ever I got stranded in Germany, it means I could at least order fried chicken for breakfast. Politely.

On a really non-related note, Polish McDonalds is made of so much win. I ordered a Happy Meal (because the box was decorated with football players, not because of the free toy, promise) and they gave away apples along with the free Pucca stamps. Amazing.

So, while you're clogging your arteries with chicken nuggets, french fries and that Coke you really shouldn't have supersized, you really shouldn't feel guilty because you're getting a good ol' dose of Vitamin A anyway.

Woot. First all-nighter of the semester!

Actually, madami nang attempts before, but they didn't really count. It was either I fell asleep somewhere in the middle (therefore, defeating the purpose of an all-nighter), or I spent that time just bumming around, getting absolutely no work done. In my books, it doesn't count as work if you're not forced to do it.

Procrastination has taken its toll on me. Habang naliligo ako kanina, narealize ko how much work I had to do. Yeah, the best discoveries occur in the shower. Dun ko nga din naisip kung ano ang topic ng position paper na gagawin ko eh.

I've got this totally weird habit of fixing my room right before I go to sleep. Awhile ago, I spent an hour looking for my Family Code. Kamusta diba? Wala lang, na-miss ko lang kasi siya. Mrs. Balonkita made us memorize the friggin' whole thing.

I'm such a pack rat, promise. I have so many useless things in my room collecting layers and layers of dust. I dunno, nao-OC kasi ako, feeling ko in one way or another magagamit ko pa sila in the future eh. Weird, since, the stuff I need, I happen to have thrown away. The stuff I keep, I don't remember I keep, so I can't use it either. Pero wala eh. May nagging feeling akong kailangan ko pa rin i-compile at itago ang How To Sew A Blouse handouts from THE. Malay natin, tamaan ako ng modista-ness sa isang araw. At least prepared diba.

WUUH. So far, my position paper is crapola.

Double WUUH. I can't make myself start on it. I'm supposed to use this time to study!

Woot, I've got a Vox account! Thanks, cK. Well, it's sorta empty-ish right now, pero kebs. I just like the fact that it's new. :P

I like summer class. It's very routinal, I actually feel like it's easier to settle in to your acads. And it's easier to make friends with classmates since you see them everyday. Although, one glitch: my oh-so-favorite Journ classmate. (I'm not mentioning her name anymore, since we all know how Googling is so easy.) Anyway, I have to endure her for another sem. I can't believe it, 1.25 siya sa paper niya, 1.75 lang ako. WUH. >.< Yuck, I'm so bitter.

Winner Text of the Day (Well, yesterday. But who cares?)
Miko: Are you wearing a white top and a pink skirt today?
Claire: Er, yeah... How did you know?
Miko: I'm psychic. :P

Winner Soundbyte-full Conversation
Tet: Jowee, do you want a summer job?
Alvin: Me, I want a job, I want a job.
Claire: Hello, may Focus ka na.
Alvin: More jobs, more jobs.
Claire: God, you're sucking up all the jobs. You're like a Mexican or something.
Alvin: Wow, your jokes are getting smarter.

Winner Nico Insensitivity Moment
(I'm walking along the Acad Oval when suddenly, I spot Nico's car.)
Nico: Claire! Get in, get in!
(So, usap-usap, chorva-chorva.)
Claire: ...Wait, saan tayo pupunta?
Nico: Sa Math.
Claire: ...Why?
Nico: Because I have a class there!
Claire: What? Eh paano ako babalik sa tambayan?
Nico: Maglalakad ka!

Summer has made my brain mush.

Alvin: Walang mashed potato sa US?
Claire: Meron, pero nakakasuka na ang patatas after so long, after the french fries, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes... kung ano pang variation.
Alvin: Wala bang rice?
Claire: Halos wala, in other places na meron, hindi sila marunong magluto.
Claire: Sunog ang kanin, kamusta naman. Rice cooker na nga lang!
Alvin: Wuhhh, infairness to you, adapting.
Claire: Huweeeell, basta pagkaaaiin.
Alvin: You're like a peguin, adapting. Wuuuuhhh.
Claire: PENGUINS ADAPT?????

Alvin: They do, I was reading about them awhile ago.
Alvin: There was a project in 1998 by Belgian scientist to see what they'll do in Africa
Claire: YOU READ ABOUT PENGUINS???
Alvin: Because I was bored
Claire: So, what did the penguins do?
Alvin: Penguins were able to wander around.
Alvin: After that, they were attacked and eaten by tribesmen.
Claire: ...How is that adapting?

Spent the whole day watching TV and eating, it's kind of disturbing. Caught up with the Camdens in the 7th Heaven marathon. Infernez, that's a Holy Week staple. I wonder when they'll have a Gilmore Girls marathon. I dunno how long 7th Heaven has been airing, but in the season they showed, the kids were all so grown up, married and having kids already. Wuuuh. I mean, even Ruthie has a boyfriend. Simon's hotter now, except for that weird thing on his chin. It looks gross. Failed goatee.

Winner ang break-up scene ni Ashlee Simpson and the Baseball Guy (as Nico calls him, I dunno why).

Guy: Why don't you want to date me?
Girl: Because you love me.

I.E. Break na tayo dahil patay na patay ka sa'kin. Hohohohoho.

Edit:

Finished some of my "Spring" Cleaning. I finally fixed and re-organized my YM Buddy List. It was hell trying to remember everyone's family names. I was like, "Oh man, ano nga pala apelyido ni Maronel...?" (I still don't know, btw.) And I couldn't make myself move on because it'd be nagging me at the back of my mind! Wuh.

Also, I finally fixed all my LJ memories. There must've been 50+ memories there, infernez. Nostalgia. Tomorrow, I'm fixing my tags, and if I'm feeling creative (and if 3sa decides to help), I'm changing my layout. :P

I'm so happy this day is ending already. It was a very Journ-filled day, that left me completely haggard. o.0 I had to cram for my Journ 100 exam in between falling asleep and jolting awake nung madaling araw. And then, in an effort na panindigan ang aking last-exam-na-rin-lang-pagtiygaan-na-natin mentality, I holed up in the CMC library to cram some more. After around, oh, 5 minutes, I fell asleep already. :P

WUUUH, Earth eat me na moment! I was asleep over by the tables when one librarian woke me up for some weird reason. As in, napatalon talaga ako, at ang initial reaction ko ay to grab all my stuff, check my watch and run out of the room. Akala ko talaga I was late for my exam na or whatever! Wuuuuh, as in, panic-stricken talaga. But no, it was just the librarian asking me to deposit my bag sa counter. At say niyo, nang paalis na si Ms. Librarian, tinanong pa niya ko where I bought my bag, complete with genuinely hopeful, I-want-one-too face. Ako ang nahiya. ^^' Yep, may connection na kami ni Ms. Old Librarian: our passion for hot pink bags. Word.

Homaygolleh, madali ang Journ 100 exam! Well, not easy, but keri at the least. Pamatay talaga yung first exam eh. Examples galore. I hope I get a good grade there, ang baba ng exam and presentation namin. :O

Hemingways, after the haggard exam na nakaka-stiff neck, wrist pain at worst, nakakaubos ng tinta ng bolpen, we all went to Dana's house to edit and layout our first ever newspaper as Journalism students! Perky 'no? Strangely enough, the newspaper isn't for our Journ or English class. Saan pa ba kundi sa aming favorite subject: Math 1.

I♥ layouting! Promise, it speaks to my ka-OC-han. That along with becoming a copy-editor. Yeaaaaah, may future partnership na nga kami ni Gem e. Siya ang gagawa ng dirty work at magiimbestiga, etc. Ako ang magttype, edit and layout. HOHOHO. :))

WUUUH, I'm not making sense na, and my eyes are half-closed. Off to reward myself with sleep, while tomorrow, sasabak na ako sa paper ko. Oh nooooo. :S Yeah, hanggang 28 nalang ang pahirap na ito. :D

Ibang level ang kabibohan ng Socio groupmates ko. We have to do a 5-minute presentation on how we can help the Philippines in our own little way. Hindi nila kinuha ang suggestion ko that we should just feed the poor to the hungry. :S What they want is to have a song and dance number of My Humps! Help me, God. Ang first line pa ay: "Whatcha gonna do with all those slums?", and ang chorus: "My tax, my tax, my tax, my tax." Shet. Not to mention, we have to be in rainbow colors tomorrow. I'm orange. Wuh. I hope I don't wake up in time for Socio tomorrow.

She's the Man rocks my effin' socks! I can't get over it. :)) Buti nalang we watched that instead of V For Vendetta. I needed a good ol' teen movie to refresh me bago sumabak sa hell week. o.0 Hemingways, super bumenta sa'kin ang movie: from the catfights, to the tarantula, to the Brokeback twist. I didn't get to watch Goal, so the football twist of She's the Man was a welcome one. Hotness talaga. :)) Duke was super HOT. Especially during his brooding scenes and that bicycle kick. *whistles*

Louie: Ang pangit ng real name ni Duke: Channing Tatum.
Claire: Baka yun na yung compensation dahil hot and sweet na nga siya.

Wuuuh. Now that I've had my lakwacha, I need to STUDY. Kamusta naman, I have to make a newspaper, a research paper, a thinkpiece, a song and dance number, a critique, finish my Rubik's cube, study for all my finals, read JowJow's books and train. Then I shall die. Hoo boy.

For those who are following The Wonderful Adventures of Dudung, we left off at the Mysterious Phone Pal and The Parcel.

One day, as I was super late for Math again, I became even more late because Dudung was driving with one hand, while talking to someone (aka Mysterious Phone Pal) on his cellphone with the other. And the thing is, the caller was *gasp* a woman! And this was all while Dudung's wife was like, 8 months pregnant. So, the call went on and on and on and on and on. They kept talking about wires and plugs and shit. Then when I listened in more (very discreetly, mind you), they were also talking about arrangements of meeting at some place and some time.

Hmmm. Interesting.

I got to Math already so I didn't have time to hear the rest of the conversation, and how long it lasted.

And then, during the evening, after I texted Dudung the Driver to fetch me in Econ, he suddenly sends me the wrong text message! Hohohoho. And guess what? He was all like, "'Tol, nasan na yung parcel natin? Kailan ko ba makukuha?" chorva chorva. *gasp again*

Hmmm. Very interesting.

Some theorize Dudung has a kabit. A satellite relationship. Some say he might be part of a mafia or a chain gang.

*drumroll*

The mystery has been revealed today! Dudung has a new cellphone! "Huh?!" you might say. But hohoho, apparently, ang kaniyang kapatid who's in London ay nagpadala sa kaniya ng kaniyang bagong selepono. Ooooohhh, so she's the girl, and that's what the wires, plugs and parcels were for. It all falls into place.

Infernez na to Dudung, he was super duper proud of his new phone. As in, pasimple pa siya. He was all, "I lost your number" and all at hiningi niya, then... he whipped out his new cellphone, all shining, shimmery, splendid! After the obligatory, oh-wow-how-pretty expressions, pinahawak na niya sa'kin. It isn't Nokia, Siemens or Motorola or anything. London makes some weird-ass phones. At guess what, nung pinasa pa niya sa'kin ang kaniyang phone, naka-on ang camera! Pa-star! Wuuuh. Fine, fine, fine, you have a camera phone and I don't. Fiiiine.

When we went to GB3 (Hi Minay!) to have dinner with my sisters for some family bonding, apparently, Dudung also showed it to all of them! Pa-star talaga. :)) At salbahe si Rob, ang kaisa-isang comment niya on the brand new gadget ay: "Kasinlaki niya yung remote control natin para sa DVD player." -____-'

At ibang level na si Dudung. It must be because of his new Cell Pride, pero pa-Taglish-Taglish na lang siya ngayon.

Me: Wow, saan mo nakuha?
Dudung: Pinadala ng sister ko.
Me: Ahh. Pareho pa rin number mo?
Dudung: Yeah.

It’s my first day out of the house after that long weekend, and nakarir ko nanaman siya. BUT, infernez to me, I asked permission from Queen Mum regarding everything I’d do today. She’s been really worried about UP getting bombed by the military, natouch naman ako sa kaniyang concern. I at least wanted her to know what I was up to. Enpordat, meron akong hourly updates about where I was, who I was with, at minsan, meron pang short commentaries tungkol sa kung ano ang ginagawa ko. It sorta paid off, cos even if I got home at around 11 o’clock already, she didn’t get mad. She just peered out the window, probably to check who drove me home. Then, she retreated back to her bedroom. Maybe that means Nicolo passed her “Is this boy a bad influence to my daughter?” test. Then again, he was singing some religious song at the top of his lungs when we drove by.

My English 1 exam was sorta okay. Confusing nga lang at times. You’d think it was so simple, but magwoworry ka na rin kung may comma ba dapat dun or wala. Nakaka-OC. 0.o Kahit open notes, sometimes kailangan pakiramdaman nalang ang sentence. Oh well, I just hope I pass it. It’s English 1 for crying out loud.

I loved Sir Arugay’s lectures today during Soc Sci 2. He was on a roll discussing the military’s role (or supposed lack thereof) in politics. He knew a lot since he did a lot of pro bono work for reforms in the military. I liked his insights about political opportunists, and also on his lecture about Rosseau. Fringe benefit: he got really carried away that our reporting got pushed to Friday. Hohohoho. Buti naman dahil wala pa kaming nahahanda.

Hemingways, while most of the UP Diliman faculty, staff and studentry were at the Oblation for the University Council proclamation, Louie, Alvin, Tet, Nico, Jowee and I went to Starbuks. Starbucks and the Class Struggle na ba ito? :P Oh well. There were coupons to be redeemed, pressing matter din yun a.

After, Louie, Nico and I went to the UP Theater for Elevate. I couldn’t find my blockmates, so kebs, I hung out with DebSoc people na during the event. Minay, Katz, Inna and Mels also met us there, so fun-ness. :P I dunno, the event was very... interesting? Kamusta naman ang cheers ng IE Club at JPIA ha. Don’t quit your day job. Mag-marketing na lang kayo.

The UP Pep Squad’s performance was great. Well, most of the time. The first performance was kinda off. Kamusta naman ang primitive interpretative dance in Flintstones costume? For the first few minutes, we were all just trying to figure out what they were doing. Maybe we just weren’t cultured enough, but we really didn’t get what that dance was about.

Inna: Dance Dance Evolution?
Nicolo: Lenten Season?

I still stand by my answer. Lion King. Later on, tama na rin siya, dahil meron na ring mga dancers na mukhang hyena, Rafikki at may Battle of Pride Rock pa. Say niyo? The guy in white looked kinda freaky though. Epileptic wombat?

Oh well, after that it was all good already. Siyempre, it wouldn’t be complete without a GMA joke, a Brokeback parody (which I really liked, btw), a thinly-veiled attack against UST, and *gasp* a Samba tutorial onstage! Dun namin narealize ni Nico na ang babaw pala ng expectations namin. Hey, I just wanted old-school cheering with pompoms and glitter! That came last, but hey, it was worth the wait. Ang galing pa rin talaga ng Pep. School spirit! Not bad for a hundred bucks. :P

And siyempre, hindi kumpleto ang araw if you don’t cap it off with a pig-out session at Jollibee Philcoa! Inna, Louie, Nico and I went there and met Ia (taga-UP Baguio? :P). Guess who else we saw? Louie’s pseudo-ex. Hahahahahaha. Siyempre, tuloy naman si Inna sa kaniyang role-playing as The Jealousy Generator. Haliparot? :P

Claire: Sabi nga sa Demotivators, “The early worm gets eaten by the birds.”
Nico: So, it’s better to be the big bird than the lame worm.
Louie: Yeah. Be the bird.

NBA All-Star Weekend 2006

Now that's hang time.

Nate Robinson jumping over Spud Webb, the 1986 Slam Dunk champion.

A small guy by NBA standards, Nate Robinson was only 5'9"--but he beat everyone else in the Slam Dunk competition. There is hope for us vertically-challenged people.

And now, to go back to punctuation and capitalization. Kamusta naman ang English 1 exam ko bukas.

An almost day-long text conversation about what you want to wear the next day is just plain vanity.

I can be such a ditz. :))

In other news, my Christmas essay and autobiography for Journ Club are still in the works. And I'm completely scrutinizing every misplaced semicolon and comma splices. Ergh. :S

Wow, grammatical references in an LJ entry! I feel like such a Journ major. :))
